The Vaqueras Drill Team was started during the summer of 1957 and first marched during the school year of 1957-58.  Patricia Cockrell asked Mr. Avara  for permission to start a drill team.  Ms. Olivia Moore and Ms. Betty Allison agreed to be our sponsors. 

 

Patricia, Waw Wease and I went to Ms. Moore’s home and that is where and when it began.  I think Bonnie went with us but not sure who else.

 

I recently met with the school principal and current director of the Vaqueras to discuss celebrating 50 years this next football season.  Tentative date is October 27^th at the Thorn Football Stadium on FM 525 (Aldine Bender).  All former drill team members are invited to attend and be on the field during half-time.
