What happened after
graduation?
I was one of your "smart" school colleagues! I QUIT high school! I was so smart, I out-smarted myself!! I missed out on all those fun and wonderful
things that you all participated in, those solid bonds that you formed, and
those memories that you got to make............I took the entrance exams at the
University of Houston,
was accepted and began my college career leaving my friends and first love
behind!
I finally finished my undergraduate degree in '79 (business
and psychology) and my Master's in '81.
As a psychotherapist, I managed two offices for family therapy. I lived in Katy for many, many years before
settling in Conroe. I finally retired to care for my husband of
almost 50 years, who has had a couple of strokes, dementia and is 84 years old. He
brought three little boys into our marriage and then we had two children of our
own....so between getting educated, rearing five children, getting them
educated, and working full time, the years have flown.
Starting at a new school in the country (Aldine was country
then!) was so foreign, as we were from the city. My sister Hope (class of '56) and I would
stand out in the dark every morning to catch that big yellow bus coming into Oak
Forest--only to ride it for miles and miles. We were the outsiders (the students living in
Oak Forest), but we all seemed to
carve a path for ourselves and were accepted.
I remember crying when the old school burned down....whoever set that
fire made such an impact on so many of our lives. Things we took for granted could quickly be
snatched away. However, none of us
complained when we only went to school half-days, except Ms. Ermel and Ms. Jacobs, and of course, Mr. Marion - what
great teachers. Ms. Langston taught me
the skill of sewing - and she had to have had the patience of Job. But, what a wonderful gift she gave me that I
have enjoyed throughout my years!
My husband graduated from the United States Merchant Marine
Academy in Long Island, New York,
in 1944. He was a Marine Engineer. He retired from Dresser-Magcobar
as Manager of Global Engineering in 1985.
Children and grandchildren
We have five children, twelve grandchildren and thirteen
great grandchildren. All are living in
various parts the United States.
All have advanced degrees. All four sons did their tour in the military.
We are proud of each of their accomplishments.
I never thought I
would…
Run a Marathon........Six years ago I
began to run.....First I walked, then jogged, now running...........have
entered several 5K, 10K, Half Marathons and
Marathons. Just got started late in
life.......Certainly I would do this differently if I had the opportunity; in
the meantime, I shall enjoy............and winning a race for me is finishing
it!
Rewarding events
since 1958
Topping the list of rewarding events would be having had the
opportunity in watching my children and grandchildren mature. Sharing in their dreams as well as my own and
reaching those deep seated goals that I didn't think were possible.
Additional thoughts
and comments
I am real excited about this reunion, and I do hope we will
have a successful and fun filled evening.
Hopefully, I will see you there!
